MPLS adopted for new communications network

A new communications network to be operational in Spain will utilise Multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) in its methods, it has been revealed.

The network will support a new high-speed rail route from Valencia to Madrid and will be implemented in 2010, according to operator Alcatel-Lucent.

It will be the largest MPLS network ever established in Spain for a high-speed rail network.

“Our optical and IP network transformation experience around the world will provide the needed communications infrastructure to enable effective signaling, safety and traffic control systems,” stated president of the organisation’s European operations Adolfo Hernandez.

Optical fibres will also play a part in the new MPLS operation he furthered.

Last week, search engine Google announced that it has incorporated secure layer virtual private network options into its technology mix to reinforce the safety of the password options its users choose.
