23/03/2009
Business continuity is now the most important reason for companies to implement virtualisation-based IT solutions, according to a new survey.
According to a survey conducted by VMWare, 45 per cent of customers implementing virtualisation-based IT solutions are doing so to help ensure business continuity, compared to 40 per cent who claim that server consolidation is their primary motivation.
The survey also revealed that data storage centres are increasingly becoming standardised on virtualisation technology, with 42 per cent of respondents indicating this is the case compared to 25 per cent a year ago.
Raghu Raghuram, vice president, server business unit, said that virtualisation was helping to bring down the cost of business continuity and therefore putting it within reach of many different kinds of organisations.
The Business Continuity Institute has named this week international business continuity awareness week, in an attempt to highlight the importance of effective crisis management plans for companies.
