Businesses "woefully unprepared" for pandemic

Many businesses in the UK are "woefully unprepared" for the potential danger posed by a swine flu pandemic to their business continuity, according to one IT expert.
Steve Taylor, writing for Network World, cites a poll by Webtorials which found that business continuity plans for 23 per cent of companies do not address the possibility of a medical pandemic at all.
On top of this, a further 36 per cent of the organisations surveyed have business continuity strategies which have only minimal preparations for a pandemic in place.
Mr Taylor said: "Business continuity and disaster recovery are areas that are easily overlooked until the calamity strikes - and by then it's too late.
"While we have every hope that the most serious impact of H1N1 is simply as a wake-up call, sooner or later these plans will indeed be needed."
The virulent form of the H1N1 virus known as swine flu has already killed more than 100 people in Mexico.
