Data storage centre software market 'doing well'
13/03/2009
Research by a market intelligence firm has revealed that the market for software for data storage centres is still strong, despite the global economic downturn.
According to IDC, the worldwide storage software market experienced its 21st consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2008 with revenues up by 3.6 per cent on the same period in 2007.
The sector is not totally immune to the recession however. Michael Margossian, research analyst for storage software at IDC, said: "Even with the usually strong fourth quarter, most vendors showed signs of slowing down and in some cases declining year over year."
However, overall, the figures appear to suggest that demand for data storage centres is growing despite the recession, as increasing numbers of organisations embrace the need for data backup to ensure business continuity.
Recently, the IT and market analysis firm iJet claimed that the recession may make effective business continuity plans increasingly important because the number of strikes, walkouts and other disruptive actions are likely to increase.
