Expert issues top tips for ensuring business continuity in a pandemic
26/05/2009

Despite media coverage of the threat of swine flu subsiding, IT experts still believe that companies should have a business continuity plan in place to deal with potential pandemics.
Alison Brown, co-founder of pandemic preparedness organisation Healthcare Connections, revealed her top tips for such a plan to the business publication Management Today.
These hints include the creation of a dedicated pandemic preparedness team and identifying which staff members and suppliers are critical to the organisation's operations in advance.
Ms Brown added: "Consideration should be given to how the business will continue to operate without key members of staff due to sickness absence. Agency staff or cross training should be considered."
Although swine flu may have disappeared from the front pages, the infection is still spreading. More than 135 cases have been confirmed in the UK and some experts believe the disease may become more virulent over the winter period.
