Fire figures 'highlight need for business continuity'
09/03/2009
Figures released recently by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) reveal that claims for fire damage reached record levels in 2008, a fact which highlights the importance of business continuity in the current climate.
According to the ABI, the overall cost of fire damage last year was 16 per cent higher than it was in 2007 and fire damage cost people and businesses in the UK around £3.4 million a day.
Nick Starling, the ABI's director of general insurance and health, decribed the figures as "alarming".
He said: "We know that arson tends to increase during an economic downturn. Insurers are reporting a rise in large-scale fires that are increasingly putting lives at risk."
Continuity Central said that the statistics help to show how important it is for companies to have disaster recovery plans in place to help them cope should their premises go up in flames.
