Voltaire, a storage switching provider, has announced the launch of a new hardware module designed to make data storage centres more efficient.
The company claims that the new Grid Director 4700, an InfiniBand director-class switch, offers the lowest latency in the industry.
Voltaire explained that the switch, which is part of its fourth generation switch family, features 324 40 gigabits per second ports of InfiniBand connectivity but also offers the option for capacity to be doubled to 648 using double-density boards.
Asaf Somekh, vice president of marketing at Voltaire, said that when used in combination with Voltaire software, the switch "not only delivers the best performance for large clusters, but also provides the most management features to simplify scale-out".
The switch, which is designed to be used in data storage centres, may help improve the efficiency of data backup for business continuity purposes.
