Organisations 'should improve disaster recovery plans'

A new white paper claims that organisations are not doing enough to protect their business critical data from unexpected disruption or potential loss.
Double Take software, the authors of the white paper, emphasise the importance of business continuity and the part that virtualisation can play in ensuring that disaster recovery plans are up to scratch.
The company claims that tape backup technology, which can also be used in disaster recovery planning, is inferior to the virtual server backup that virtualisation allowed.
IT news website the Register reported: "Double Take argues that recovery from tape can be difficult and lengthy, especially if there is a time lag between the disaster and the time the last tape back-up ran."
Earlier this week, Hewlett-Packard announced the launch of several new virtualisation-based products aimed at making business continuity easier and cutting down data recovery times following a disaster.
