Cloud computing 'could change IT'
11/05/2009
Cloud computing has the potential to change the way people look at the provision of IT solutions, according to one expert from India.
Shanthi Kanan, writing in the Hindu, compared the changes that cloud computing could potentially bring about to the changes wrought by the initial introduction of web browsers and the spread of the internet.
She added that the potential reductions that cloud computing can bring about in IT budgets could help companies make significant savings.
Mr Madhavan, founder of Gquotient, told the Hindu: "An IT organisation can increase hardware utilisation rates dramatically and to scale up to massive capacities in an instant - without constantly having to invest in new infrastructure."
Cloud computing enables companies to access programmes and software as a service, rather than having to shell out on initial purchase and licensing costs.
It can also reduce the need to update hardware as often, potentially saving businesses more money.
