European-wide wireless broadband 'given the go ahead'
25/09/2008
Plans to introduce a wireless broadband system across Europe have been approved by politicians of the European Union (EU) it has been reported.
Proposals involve the installation of a wireless broadband system which would also deliver TV and radio services to EU states.
The spectrum previously used to deliver analog TV would be adopted, upon recommendations made by the EU parliament, to ensure the smooth running and success of the system.
Regulators would also be granted the authority to recommend functional separation in a bid to keep operations and competition among various networks fair, the EU representatives added.
During the discussions, it was agreed that a new regulator would be founded, operating under the name the Body of European Regulators in Telecommunications.
This decision comes after the EU called for the founding up of a new independent telecommunications regulatory group yesterday.
