UK companies want high-speed business broadband

The majority of companies in the UK want a high-speed business broadband network, a survey has revealed.
Conducted by the Communications Management Association (CMA), the poll revealed that 94 per cent of businesses believe that the UK needs a nationwide high-performance telecommunications infrastructure in order to remain competitive internationally.
At the same time, 95 per cent of the companies said that the government should act quickly in order for the UK to regain its place among the top ten countries for broadband infrastructure.
Glenn Powell, Chief Executive of CMA, said: "This shows the urgency with which the measures proposed by the recent interim Digital Britain report are needed."
The Digital Britain report, unveiled by communications minister Lord Carter recently, lays out the government's strategy for putting a high-speed broadband network in place across the whole country.
Currently the UK is not in the top twenty countries in the world in terms of fibre-optic network penetration, according to the fibre-to-the-home council of Europe.
