Council looks for business broadband feedback

13/08/2009

Devon County Council is asking businesses in the region to provide feedback on the broadband service they are provided with.

The results of the survey will be used to create a map of broadband speeds across the county, highlighting where connections need to be improved.

According to the local authority ten per cent of the country's slowest broadband regions are in the south-west and it wants to build up a clearer picture of where funding needs to be directed to make the best improvements.

The council claims that rural firms need a good leased line or business internet connection to maintain a competitive advantage.

Councillor William Mumford, cabinet member for economic regeneration and strategic planning, said: "Having a fast internet connection is vital for businesses and communities - especially those in rural locations.

"This business survey is an important piece of work and the results essential for taking our first step towards out target of 100 per cent coverage across the county."

At the start of this month former Apprentice star Claire Young lent her support to the Country Land and Business Association's rural broadband campaign.ADNFCR-1876-ID-19310947-ADNFCR
