Despite being affected by the recession, Ethernet extensions still prove to be the top technology for building converged telecommunications, it has been claimed.
Ethernet extensions have proved to be the top technology for building converged telecommunications, despite being affected by the recession, according to new data.
The Carrier Ethernet Switch/Router Quarterly Market Tracker report, published by Heavy Reading, highlighted that the technology has proved popular due to its cost-effectiveness, but it has still suffered from the effects of the current economic climate.
Stan Hubbard, senior analyst for the group, commented: "Carrier Ethernet remains the technology of choice for building converged telecommunications network solutions because of its extraordinary performance-price advantages."
He added that competition within the sector has never been more intense.
A report conducted last month by the Dell'Oro Group highlighted that growing demand for virtualisation has boosted the 10 Gigabit Ethernet network adapter market, which rebounded in the first quarter of the year following a dip at the end of 2008.
The company predicted that the coming year will be one of growth for Ethernet technologies.
