UK customers 'could be overpaying for broadband'
12/05/2009
Domestic and business broadband packages may be costing people in the UK more than is strictly necessary, according to research released recently.
The study, conducted by price comparison sit BroadbandChoices.co.uk, suggested that customers in the UK could save as much as £230 per year by switching to a cheaper provider.
Broadband speeds rose by an average of 700 per cent between 2006 and 2008, according to the website, while prices fell by 37 per cent, suggesting that businesses which have not renewed their broadband package for some time should look around for better deals.
Michael Phillips, product director at BroadbandChoices.co.uk, said: "[People] don't realise that by switching - or asking for a better deal - they can get a newer, cheaper and faster service."
Recent advances in broadband technology mean that superfast services using Ethernet connections - rather than standard networks- are now available to some businesses in the UK.
