F5 Networks: Majority of firewalls cannot handle attacks
17/10/2008
Many managed firewalls used by firms lack the means to fend off malicious software attacks, it has been claimed.
Harvinder Rajwant Singh of the Indian branch of F5 Networks, has said that this is going to present a significant challenge when it comes to moderating and developing security systems.
He also added that firewalls are simply not accommodating enough to fend off attacks by those attempting to access restricted areas and commands, onestopclick.com reported.
This is because they operate on a simple basis of locking and unlocking addresses, resources or ports, he said.
Mr Singh elaborated: "Security systems and firewalls today are not smart enough nor are they designed to detect the new breed of application-layer attacks, let alone protect against them."
According to its website, F5 networks is the "global leader in application delivery networking" that offers firms "network, server and storage environments".
