Gartner predicts growth for HVD market

Hosting web servers are set to see a rise in demand over the course of the next few years as more businesses look to benefit from the use of hosted virtual desktops (HVD), it has been claimed.
According to research from analyst firm Gartner, the HVD market is set to surge, with worldwide revenue rising from around $1.5 billion (£1.1 billion) in 2009 to a whopping $65.7 billion by 2013.
That will represent 40 per cent of the total global professional PC market as more businesses recognise the benefits that can be obtained from using hosting web servers.
"HVD adoption is likely to be rapid during the next three to five years, particularly in mature markets where existing data centre and network infrastructures will be used to offset the cost of entry," suggested Annette Jump, research director at Gartner.
An IT expert recently outlined some of the benefits that can be offered by using managed hosting solutions.
Amy Armitage wrote in Host Review that managed hosting can bring the secure, high-quality infrastructure and high-speed connectivity, alongside additional technical support and state-of-the-art equipment.
