Managed services 'popular among businesses'
01/10/2008
Managed services are being increasingly utilised by companies across the globe in order to bolster their methods, it has been reported.
However, according to Gartner, which undertook research on the subject, there are a lot of external service providers (ESPs) that do not yet possess the "governance, modeling and change management skills" to get the most out of collaborations.
Firms need to thoroughly weigh up the options available to them as well as taking into account the requirements of various business process management (BPM) projects prior to entering managed services commitments, said Michele Cantara, Vice President of research for the IT analysts.
"Successful BPM requires an agile iterative approach to process change. Many internal IT organisations and ESPs are still practicing business process re-engineering, using "waterfall" software development methods and calling this BPM," she explained.
The value of the managed data industry shot up by 17 percentage points to £4.7 billion between 2006 and 2007, according to research carried out by IDC.
