Policy control to take precedence in future network developments

The deployment of policy tools will increase rapidly throughout the next two years via both wireline and wireless networks, a new report suggests.
Heavy Reading's publication, Policy Control & DPI: The New Broadband Imperative, said policy control has become an important factor in the transition to an all-IP next-generation network.
Providers are looking to control high-bandwidth facilities and improve the options their consumers can take advantage of, it added.
"Flexible rules-based policy engines are going to become more important in future," said Heavy Reading's chief analyst Graham Finnie. "Policy matters more than ever before."
Meanwhile, further research by the New York-based firm recently included its Carrier Ethernet Access Platform Quarterly Market Tracker.
This stated that copper-based carrier Ethernet access platform sales grew by 74 per cent for the year finishing at the end of 2008's second quarter, with a total of $208 million (£121 million).
