04/02/2009
A new survey has revealed that many small businesses risk missing out on the cloud computing revolution because they fail to understand the concept of managed hosting.
The research, conducted by Rackspace, found that more than half of businesses in the UK are unaware of the term "cloud hosting" and one-third of UK business said they did not know how they would use cloud computing as part of their IT systems.
Lew Moorman, chief strategy officer for the company's hosting division, said that cloud computing would be the "hot business topic for 2009" and would need to be understood by everyone, not just IT directors.
He added: "Cloud technology is ideal for the current economic climate, but it is vital that businesses understand how it can best serve their organisation."
Recently Avinash Arun, an analyst for the technology consultancy firm AMI-Partners, predicted that companies would increasingly turn towards managed hosting solutions as a way of saving money during the recession.
