Virtualisation becoming a 'critical step' for businesses

Experts have claimed that server virtualisation is increasingly becoming a critical step for many businesses, as IT managers join the fight to keep costs down during the recession.
According to Microsoft, managed-hosting solutions providers are offering increasing numbers of businesses virtualisation technology because it can help reduce their IT costs.
Mike Neil, general manager of virtualisation in the server and tools business at Microsoft Corporation, said that businesses looking for "a compelling next-generation web experience" could turn to managed hosting solutions providers which use virtualisation technology.
He added: "We're enabling hosting providers to be successful in the new era of software plus services with a reliable platform and broad range of services."
Server virtualisation means that each physical machine can host several virtual servers, reducing the need for multiple PCs and cutting IT operating and maintenance costs.
