Analysts: Outsourced IT services becoming more popular
11/12/2008
IT analysts have found that businesses are increasingly adopting an outsourced approach to IT, with many opting for third-party managed hosting solutions for both hardware and software.
Katherine Trost, an analyst from Nemertes research, said that 63 per cent of respondents to a survey indicated that they used third-party managed hosting solutions in 2008, up from 46 per cent in 2007 and 27 per cent in 2006.
Her colleague Robin Gareiss, Nemertes' executive vice president and senior founding partner, said that managed hosting service providers reported they are busier than ever.
Mr Gareiss claimed: "Thats not surprising, considering IT leaders must keep their companies humming along with low capital budgets and hiring freezes."
Ms Trost added added that the stability offered by outsourced IT, where a third-party covers the costs of running and repairing hardware for a fixed fee, "is extremely appealing to IT decision-makers in the current economic environment".
Recently Michael Dean, group marketing manager for the National Computing Centre, said his organisation had also noticed an increase in the number of businesses turning to managed hosting solutions in a bid to save money.
