Economic downturn 'will push green initiatives in IT'
18/12/2008
The credit crunch may have the side effect of persuading more companies to pursue greener IT solutions, experts have said.
According to Network World, a survey by Forrester has revealed that 25 per cent of companies are implementing a green IT program, up from 15 per cent last year.
IT analyst Jon Brodkin wrote on the website that businesses are increasingly embracing greener IT because despite the potential for initial outlay on new equipment, being more energy efficient can save companies money in the long run.
Mr Brodking added: "Naturally, saving money on energy costs is the primary motivating factor causing corporations to ramp up green IT efforts [but] there is [also] concern about aligning IT with corporate green initiatives and using green to improve brand image."
Recently an expert said that making data storage centres more environmentally friendly could potentially help companies save on energy and carbon costs.
