A hardware firm has launched a new application delivery controller platform specifically aimed at businesses which want to increase their usage of cloud computing.
Network World reported that F5 Networks has launched the Big IP 6900, a module designed for supporting cloud-based services.
The platform, which accelerates network performance by offloading network-related functions from servers and boosting performance of Web applications through caching and compression, supports up to 6Gbps of Layer 7 throughput and 25,000 SSL transactions per second.
Lori MacVittie of F5 Networks said: "It's got more throughput and a lot more processing power to be able to handle a lot of the automation, integration and all the really cool stuff that makes the cloud work."
Recently, IT expert David Mitchell-Smith predicted that cloud computing will enable the next big evolution in business - a change he said would be as significant as the e-commerce revolution.
