Cloud computing 'makes sense for small businesses'
16/04/2009
Cloud computing makes sense as an IT strategy for small businesses, according to a report published by the consultancy firm McKinsey.
By enabling organisations to pay for software and other IT tools on a pay-as-you-go basis rather than buying expensive packages and licenses outright, the technology can help small enterprises make savings, according to the report.
McKinsey also claimed that cloud computing can help enterprises of all sizes to "seamlessly scale" their businesses in line with fluctuating client demand.
The report, entitled Clearing the air on cloud computing, also claimed: "Clouds already make sense for many small and medium-size businesses but technical, operational and financial hurdles will need to be overcome before clouds will be used extensively by large public and private enterprises."
Recently, Bryan Glick, the editor of Computing, predicted that 2009 will be a big year for cloud computing.
