Optimising WAN 'helps reduce size and cost'
05/02/2009
Wider area network (WAN) optimisation can help an organisation reduce both the size and the cost of its network links, according to one expert.
Steve Taylor, writing on Network World, explained that by employing WAN optimisation controllers - pieces of software that help WANs run more efficiently organisations can save significantly on their IT costs.
Mr Taylor quoted Network World research which suggests that around one-third of IT organisations have already deployed WAN optimisation controllers, but that most of these have done so "in a tactical, or very limited fashion".
He added: "According to our market research, roughly one-third of IT organisations will either deploy WAN optimisation controllers for the first time in 2009 or increase their current deployment."
Recently, a NHS hospital trust in Kettering spoke out about how implementing WAN optimisation had helped it to save money.
