Thai Airways adopts VoIP

18/05/2009

Thai Airways has turned to voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology in order to increase the efficiency of its phone networks, it has emerged.

The prestigious airline has signed an agreement with the Swedish VoIP provider Carl Lamm which is designed to convert its telephone system by using a more flexible infrastructure offered by VoIP.

Carl Lamm said that the new solution will mean that Thai Airways can handle greater volumes of call traffic better at periods of peak demand.

It added: "Previously, the company used a traditional telephone exchange solution, the disadvantages of which were that upgrades were costly and it was viewed as rigid and inflexible."

VoIP systems utilise broadband internet lines to pass voice data in packages, in much the same way that emails pass written data.

Thai Airways, which was founded in 1960, operates a worldwide flight network of lfights using a fleet of 88 modern aircraft.
