MPLS and DSL merging project wins award

A corporate wide area network (WAN) service allowing businesses to tag and prioritise DSL (digital subscriber line) data traffic has won an award from New Paradigm Resources Group and Pipeline magazine.
EarthLink unit New Edge Networks won the 2008 Communications Innovator Award for Most Innovative Competitive Carrier for its Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) over DSL offering, which the judges described as "a boon to enterprise IT planners".
The service was first launched last April and enables businesses to mix the benefits of business broadband and a full T-1 high-speed telephone line.
New Edge's business DSL network is capable of reaching 90 per cent of US corporate addresses.
"The turbulent economic times make MPLS over DSL a more compelling network option for getting a faster return on investments in new computer applications that businesses use to improve productivity, efficiency and customer experience," said Greg Griffiths, vice-president of marketing for New Edge.
Last month, New Edge's online customer and partner portal received the 2008 North American Customer Value Award from research firm Frost & Sullivan.
