Next generation broadband 'could bring speeds of 45Mbps'

21/10/2008

The installation of next generation of super fast broadband in the UK could bring with it speeds of up to 45Mbps, according to an expert.

As reported by broadbandfinder.co.uk, Tom Newton of UK Media commented that in theory those living in Tokyo and Seoul already have speeds of up to 100Mbps with an average of around 45Mbps.

"It's a similar story in Japan, where anything below 40Mbps is considered to be slow," he added.

Considering Virgin Media's recent claim that updating its cable system could see its speeds double, Mr Newton said "If examples from both here and overseas are anything to go by, promises of 100Mbps or even 200Mbps seem to be just that".

Meanwhile, a spokesperson from Jupiter Research has claimed that broadband is not an area that will be affected by the credit crunch, as it is too important an aspect in people's lives for them to cut spending on.
