VoIP technology 'feared' by many businesses
03/10/2008
An advisor has claimed that many businesses hesitate when it comes to using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology as they lack confidence in their own knowledge of it.
Head of operations at Technolgy Means Business (TMB) Adam Le Gresley said that small businesses are unaware of such aspects of how much VoIP can cost, or what it actually does.
"There's a fear or lack of it or lack of knowledge about it and that's the problem. It's not that it's not cost-effective but the fear they won't understand it," he explained.
Mr Le Gresley furthered that "people have to realise" that VoIP providers operate "very good" services when it comes to customer support.
A survey undertaken by Silicom.com found that 60 per cent of small businesses were considering investing in VoIP in 2007.
VoIP is defined by Computerweekly.com as a method of making calls online which may ultimately lead to the telephone system becoming entirely integrated into the Internet.
